A series of Frequently Asked Questions have been developed to help you understand more about e-SCAPE:
e-SCAPE developed as a partnership between two COFA research entities - Porosity Studio and The Collabor8 Project (C8) - and is a cross-disciplinary studio working in both the offline and online spaces to provide students with a unique opportunity to engage with a complex brief focusing on a brief dealing with different levels of scale within the city of Shanghai. e-SCAPE acknowledges and embraces cross-cultural collaborative practice as a rapidly emergent global design paradigm and seeks to establish a means for students to engage with the multi-modal nature of contemporary praxis.
The Porosity Studio has been formed by Goodwin to embrace all manner of exploration within the public space of the city to run parallel with his own research. This can equally take the form of public art, performance, design, theoretical research and virtual or simulated works in a wide range of formats and media. The linking thread is public space, however one wishes to define it.
The Porosity Studio promotes linkage between all the schools within COFA. In particular it seeks to blur the boundaries between sculpture, design and new media studies.
e-SCAPE is also the fourth in a series of online Collabor8 (C8) projects and sees the online studio expand it's scope through it's placement within the Porosity Studio context. C8 aims to explore and address the multiplicity of issues inherent in cross-cultural interactions and transactions - most fundamentally at the level of creative collaboration in online contexts. Trends within the creative industries are seeing artists, designers and architects increasingly adopt collaborative and cross-disciplinary modes of practice working in studio teams that merge with digital networks. The challenges inherent in this scenario cannot be underestimated.
e-SCAPE offers students the chance to be part of an innovative and exciting international online project. This multi-modal community allows for a unique and stimulating learning environment, as well as the opportunity to receive on-going feedback to your work from professional practitioners and academics in the field.
